Cold Song
November 24, 2006What Power art thou,
Who from below,
Hast made me rise,
Unwillingly and slow,
From beds of everlasting snow!
See’st thou not how stiff,
And wondrous old,
Far unfit to bear the bitter cold.
I can scarcely move,
Or draw my breath,
I can scarcely move,
Or draw my breath.
Let me, let me,
Let me, let me,
Freeze again…
Let me, let me,
Freeze again to death!

My Own Portrait Studio!
November 21, 2006I got my Christmas present very early this year, but it’s because I have need for it many times in the next few weeks: I got a chroma key backdrop, stand, and virtual backdrops (images to use in place of the “green screen.”). I tried it out tonight, and it works GREAT! Coupled with Knockout 2 (Adobe Photoshop plug-in), it allows me to take photos using my multiple-flash setup and the green screen and then place any backdrop I want behind the subject. This is really useful when trying to find a backdrop that really “works” with someone’s clothing, hair, etc.
Here are two examples of what I was able to do.
I was able to go from this:

And another example:

Yes, they’re not perfect, but for first tries, I think they’re pretty freakin’ awesome! Sherry and I decided this year not to do the regular school photos because they always turn out badly, and they never quite “capture” our kids appropriately. Now, we can be assured of getting the photos we want, and ones we feel happy to share with friends and family. Plus, it’ll be a lot of fun for me to do!
I will be shooting a corporate party this year, as well as a school event for my daughter’s school, and both have requested chroma key photography: this is going to be fun!!!
