Disappearing Blogs

January 13, 2008

I go through my list to the right daily (or almost daily) and found that one of the blogs I followed (that hasn’t been updated in a few months) is now officially gone. It’s giving the ol’ 404 when you follow the link. Three others haven’t had updates in months.

This makes me sad.

I will put them on the reserves list: not deleted, but not displayed either. When they start posting again, I’ll put ‘em back on the list. Two of those were friends of mine, and one was my inspiration to begin blogging. I’m saddest about seeing her “go.” I hope she comes back and blogs again in the future. She and her husband are neat people, and I like reading about their lives.

So long, Robert Goulet

October 30, 2007

goulet.jpgHe’s been the butt of many jokes and skits over the past 30 years or so on shows like Saturday Night Live, but Robert Goulet was a great entertainer. I grew up as a kid hearing his music, my parents owning a few of his albums. I remember one in particular with him stepping out of a limousine, and that image of him at the height of his career is forever etched in my mind whenever his name is mentioned.

Sadly, Robert Goulet died this morning awaiting a lung transplant. He was 73, and while that seems “old,” those of us in our 40’s know that it’s not quite so old at all. He was still active and performing up until a few months ago when he was diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary disease.

I have to admit I’ve always liked his voice, although I didn’t necessarily always like most of the songs. He was a great performer, and I do wish I’d have had a chance to see him live. I wanted to see him in Camelot when the show with him and Richard Burton came to Chicago when I was a kid, but my parents went without me.
