Looking for…

January 14, 2008

What? “pictures + right whales penis” is in yesterday’s search phrase list.

Today, the leader is “sci-fi costumes” and “the predator.” And yes, Haley Bennett is on the list, too (in four different places depending on spelling and if they were looking for photos of her topless or not).

Want to generate lots of traffic to your site?

January 13, 2008

Mention Haley Bennett. For some reason, people want to see her topless or read about her. How do I know? Search terms that have been bringing people here. By far, the top search term by a margin of over 16 to 1 is Haley Bennett.

Haley Bennett in Music and Lyrics

So, in the interest of fulfilling my duty as being a destination to which a search for her terminates, I provide the following (courtesy of Wikipedia):

Bennett was born and raised in Naples, Florida. Bennett began high school at Stow-Munroe Falls High School in Stow, Ohio and later studied music and acting while attending Barron Collier High School. She and her mother moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her career in the summer of 2005 during her senior year.

Bennett’s debut film role was as the pop music singer Cora Corman in the 2007 romantic comedy Music and Lyrics, alongside Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Bennett sang several songs for the Music and Lyrics soundtrack, including “Buddha’s delight” and “Way Back Into Love“. Fragments of “Entering Bootytown” and “Slam” are heard during concert scenes in the movie. “Invincible” can only be heard during the end credits, and is only a minute and a half long.

She has signed a three-picture deal with Warner Brothers Pictures[2] and has finished filming her second movie College. Bennett is soon to star in a film called She Lived, playing a child who stayed sane after her mother tried to murder her.

She appeared in the February 2007 issue of GQ in the GQ/Features section.[3]

In 2007, she signed with 550 Music/NuSound Records (part of the Epic Records family of labels), and began working on her first album with the aid of singer/songwriter Shaley Scott.

Finally, I have no photos of her topless. Sorry.

Bluetooth Tethering

December 21, 2007

Sounds kind of exotic and weird, but as I just received my bluetooth USB transceiver, I took the time to get it installed and working with my Smartphone, the Moto Q9c. Getting the two devices to discover each other was a chore, but once working, it was awesome. I can now tether my computer (eeePC) and my Q9c so that I can use the Internet no matter where I go without having to use a connecting cable. Therefore, I can just put my phone down onto the table, set my computer next to it, get the tethering software to work, and I’m on the Internet, baby!

The benefit of the cable is that the cable keeps the phone charged while tethering, but if I’m tethering without AC power, it’s better to use the Bluetooth. Besides, it works just as well (and without having to connect wires, etc)!

The Contest

November 13, 2007

Ok… so maybe when I read the rules, I misunderstood or inferred something incorrectly. Regardless, the way it stands now is that I’m not one of five semi-finalists, but one of nineteen vying for one of five prizes. After viewing the others, I think I have better than a good chance, but it’s not a “done deal” like I thought earlier.

Since it’s out in the public, I can now say it: I’m a semi-finalist in the TiVo “Hook Up With TiVo” contest. I was selected as a semi-finalist for the following faux personals ad:

HDTV+TiVo HD+Me=Best Friends for Life!

Posted by: TiVoLover67

If you’re a Tivo HD looking for a nice Plasma HDTV and a loyal user of TiVo HME, Yahoo Weather and Traffic, Ticket Purchasing, and Product Watch, then you’re looking for me! I would love to play Skull and Bones with you, stream music or photos, and perhaps snuggle down with a little “unbox” action once we get to know each other better. I even see TiVo eSATA storage in our future!

I was called by Chris Harrison, host of TV’s The Bachelor, who notified me of my being selected as a semi-finalist. Nice guy, very unassuming and polite. As soon as I got off the phone with him, I got to work on my video. Sure, it’s not super-awesome, but it is what it is. With that said, I still think I have a decent chance. hehe

You can find my video as being on the bottom-left of the videos; I’m wearing my gray fedora.

Blogs The Old Fashioned Way

November 8, 2007

I know I should use a news reader for the blogs I follow, but I don’t. I can’t. I kind of like the whole presentation thing of blogs. People put in the time to make their snazzy layouts and to post pictures and other goodies in a way that compliments the post and fits into the scheme of their site, and I think I should view it the way it was intended to be viewed.

With that said, I do have a news reader, and most blogs are on it… but I use it mostly to let me know when there’s an update, or when something has changed. Namely, when a new post has been written (I was going to say posted, but that would be too much).

I’ve been thinking about blogs, and how they were a big thing a few years back and now, most folks have moved on to facebook or myspace with the exception of those of us who prefer the control and the freedom of having our own site with the script of our choosing, etc. For the masses, myspace and facebook (et al) are a great solution for being entangled in the tubes of the interwebs.  For those of us who have been here a while longer, or are more adept at doing things like configuring data strings and debugging html, there are good old fashioned blogs.

This place is a journal-type blog, and most of the blogs I follow are journal blogs. They keep me up-to-date with what my friends are doing, whether they are real-life friends here locally, or people I’ve met online that I like to think of as my friends (whether they think of me that way or not is irrelevant; what’s in my mind is what’s important to me). There are a few other blogs I read from time to time, my favorite being Engadget, but I love reading about the lives of people. It’s sort of the ultimate reality show for those with a brain.

Then, there’s twitter. It’s the ultimate in TMI (too much information). You can keep track of what people are doing based on their updates, which can be done moment by moment. I’ve started using it, and I’ve found it’s fun and addictive. It gives you something to do when you’re bored or in places you’d rather not be. But, for example, I went to a coffee shop last night and had a nice time and forgot to twitter it for that very reason; I wasn’t bored. It seems twitter is best suited to boredom, although I am trying to keep it up and twitter the good as well as the bad. I enjoy it… it’s the amalgamation of myspace and blogging with text messaging and bulletin boards thrown in for good measure. As fun as it is, it doesn’t take the place of the good old fashioned blog (but it definitely adds to the whole “connected” experience!).

So, I guess not only do I like clicking down my entire blogroll to look for myself if there have been any updates, but I also like to read blogs about folks and their lives. I’m thinking that makes me old fashioned, but if there’s anything I’ve learned since turning 30, it’s that I don’t care what labels people ascribe to me. It’s the labels I use for myself that matter.

Two Weeks Later

November 7, 2007

I finally got my money back from the bank. The identity theft thing is still being settled, but at least I’ve got my money back.

The hell I had to go through was enough for me to wish that the person(s) who did this die in a fire. Okay, that’s kind of severe and cliche. How about I just get to “hang out” with them in a room for five minutes. Just the person(s) and me. Oh, and perhaps with a friend of my choosing. I would borrow a life sentence prisoner and bring him to this room with me. The identity thief would then be tied onto a chair with his bare ass in the air. In front of him, and just out of reach, would be a large and inviting bottle or jar of K-Y. The prisoner could then have his way with the anus of the identity thief. While Mr. Life Sentence would be butt-raping Mr (or Ms) Identity Thief, I would ask them if the money they got from me was worth it.

Yeah. That’s how it’d go down. And I would go home smiling.

Say Hi to Kate

October 31, 2007

KateMy friend of over 25 years, Kate, has started her own blog tonight. She felt it was finally time for her to have a place where she can speak her mind, vent, or just write about what’s going on in her life. She’s also on WordPress (which is a good thing), and I’ve added her to my Blogroll on the right.

The small picture of her in this post was taken at the party this past weekend where she was Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz.” Kind of a stretch for a Sci-Fi themed party, but she was able to make sense of the premise, so we let it slide. :)

Life Without my Check Card

October 23, 2007

As I standby and wait for some pending charges to be declined so that money can be put BACK into my checking account, I ponder life without my check card. I hate it. It’s nice to be able to go anywhere and just whip out the plastic. I remember the days of having to go to ATM’s before doing anything. Sure, it helped you budget a bit better, but in the grand scheme of things, I like not being tethered to the budget just in case.

My life tends to be orchestrated mayhem, especially with the kids. Having the flexibility to spend a little more money if I have to is a nice luxury. To have only my debit card at the moment isn’t too bad; they’re accepted just about anywhere a credit card is. BUT, I do prefer using the credit card feature of my check card just in case there are charges I need to dispute, etc. According to the bank, it’s safer to use the credit feature of the check card than the debit.

If my money doesn’t reappear in my account by about 11 a.m. on the 25th, I’ve been instructed by my bank to file a police report. Then, I have to take that report back to the bank, and they will then begin the process of giving me back my money. The only bright side to this event is that I am protected and will eventually get my money back. The bad part is that I have to wait.

As an aside, I told Sherry last night that if I have to become a crime statistic, I choose to be an Identity Theft victim. I’m not fond of being assaulted, robbed, burglarized, or worse.

Credit Card Theft

October 22, 2007

For the first time in my life, someone somehow got a hold of my credit card number and address and charged something against my credit card. Twice. Fortunately for me, I was literally looking at my bank card information when it happened and watched a charge happen to my account that I didn’t make. I promptly called the credit card company and they locked my credit card and flagged it as stolen. They’re sending out a new one, but later today, I will have to contact my bank and go in and sign an affidavit of fraud. I’m glad I caught it quickly, but since it was stolen, I’m not liable anyway.

It pisses me off, though, and scares me at the same time. I actually received a receipt in an email for “female viagra” from a Canadian pharmaceuticals site (fraudulent site, apparently). The scary part was that they had my personal information spot-on. Wow. I think that I crossed over into being a victim of identity theft, now that I think of it. I hope that this was the end of it. Now I will be scrutinizing all my accounts much more closely.

The Weekend Update

October 14, 2007

We had an eventful Saturday and a nice relaxing Sunday.

Saturday was spent out in Bellville, Texas for th 80th Annual Austin County Fair. We went out there with Stevie and his family and met my mom out there for a relaxing and fun-filled day at the fair. It was our 6th year in a row going out there, and it was every bit as fun as the first time. Going out there every year is really nice; it’s sort of a “home” out in the country for us.

I got to see two things I’ve never seen before in my life. First, there was a tractor repair race. Four teams (in the heat we watched out of 16 total teams) go out to four bugged tractors. They get a work order and 45 minutes to get the tractor repaired. We watched the teams work on the tractors, guessing which team was going to win. While watching, Stevie and I started a wave in the bleachers, probably a first for a tractor repair race. In the end, the team I thought would win (the only team with a girl on it) did win (the heat, at least). It was fun to watch.

The second thing I got to see that I’ve never seen before was a duck race. Yes, actual ducks racing in water. It was kind of funny, but neat, too. The outfit putting on the duck races was very professional, and educational. The kids had a great time watching it.

We then watched the rodeo which was actually very exciting this year. After a few years of so-so bull riding, this year had some bulls that were incredibly angry and one that took quite a while to cool off and corral. After the rodeo, we drove home.

Today, I wrote some more, did some editing, and worked some more on an internet radio project I’ve gotten myself into. I then made some flounder and potatoes for dinner, and then sat down with Sherry for a few hours just talking. It was a great time; I love our talks.

Then, when I came to check on ol’ Burnerblog I found that someone thought they’d find “regina spektor” topless here. True enough, that’s a search term someone came to Burnerblog with. I wish I could help them out, but no such luck.
